Bainbridge Island, Wash., (August 15, 2022) – The Bainbridge Island Police Department responded to a report of a theft in progress at 8:28am on Sunday, Aug. 14, in the 11000 block of Olallie Lane. The suspects were operating two vehicles, a white Toyota Tacoma and an older model van, when they left the scene. A responding officer encountered the vehicles as he turned onto Arrow Point Drive from Miller Road. The suspect vehicles stopped briefly then drove to the left side of the roadway to escape. The Tacoma struck the passenger side of the marked police vehicle as it passed.
The Tacoma was found abandoned on Hart Lane. Officers searched the area for the driver without success. A trailer the Tacoma had been towing during the theft was abandoned prior to encountering the officer. The van was later recovered on High School Loop. Both vehicles were previously reported stolen.
A red 1994 Ford F-250 was reported stolen from High School Loop and is possibly related to this incident.
The officer was not injured in the collision.
