Police Officer Kurt Enget and K-9 Whitney

People from across the state gathered Saturday, April 10 to honor fallen Bainbridge Island Police Department Officer Kurt Enget.   Officer Enget passed away on April 10, 2020 from complications related to COVID-19. Due to restrictions on gatherings, services were delayed at the request of his family.  On this one-year anniversary of his passing, his life and service to the community were honored with a procession from the Bainbridge Island Police Department to the Gateway Fellowship Church in Poulsbo where a memorial service was held (and livestreamed).

Officer Enget began his law enforcement career in 2004 as a reserve deputy with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office. He then joined the Suquamish Police Department in 2005 as a full-time officer, where he served until joining the Bainbridge Island Police Department in 2015. Officer Enget was a certified K-9 handler with his partner, Whitney, for the BIPD.  He was also a field training officer.  During his service to the Bainbridge Island Police Department, Officer Enget received numerous commendations and awards.
