Bainbridge Island, Wash. – On Friday, June 3, elected officials, City staff and the community will celebrate the groundbreaking for the long-planned facility to replace the current Municipal Court and Police Department buildings. The project will provide a safer facility for these critical City functions.

“This project will provide a safe and professional environment for both visitors and staff to better serve our community,” said Police Chief Joe Clark

Once completed, the project will provide centrally located services to the community, in a seismically sound facility that meets the current building codes for essential services. It will provide better accommodation and access to the public in alignment with the Americans with Disabilities Act and is in a location well-served by public transit.

“I am looking forward to having a facility that meets the needs of the community and the staff,” explained Judge Sara McCulloch.

In April, the City Council authorized the City Manager to enter into a $7.57 million contract with Clark Construction to complete the internal reconstruction of the facility. The engineer’s estimate was $8.5 million. The project as currently designed and permitted is expected to be delivered within the $20.0 million approved budget; the project is scheduled to be completed in late 2023.

The public is invited to join City elected officials, Court staff, Police Department staff and other City staff at the new facility located at 8804 Madison Ave NE on Friday, June 3 beginning at noon. Light refreshments will be served.
