Responsibilities

The City of Bainbridge Island Public Works Operations and Maintenance Division is responsible for operating and maintaining the City’s water, sewer, storm, street, fleet, and facilities infrastructure. These activities are performed according to local, state, and federal regulations to protect the environment, safeguard public health, and preserve the physical assets of the City.

The division has personnel on call 24/7/365, to provide first response to:

  • City utility emergencies
  • Downed STOP signs
  • Wind and rain storms
  • Snow and ice events

All personnel are cross-trained to handle peak load and emergency events. In addition to these ongoing responsibilities, the division manages small projects and provides engineering, capital, and development support to improve city public works and utilities infrastructure.

If you have an after hours public works emergency that threatens public health, safety, or the environment such as a sewer spill, loss of water pressure, flooding, downed stop sign, or downed tree in the City’s right-of-way, please call 911. CenCom at 911 will contact our emergency personnel for response.
