Rockaway Beach Water Conservation
Request for Rockaway Beach Water System Conservation
July 27, 2022 Update: Despite the request for Rockaway Beach water customers to cut back on irrigation, water consumption has continued to rise. For the last several days, water consumption has exceeded the Rockaway Beach well supply.
Due to the current supply issues, the City will be opening the water system intertie with the Island Utility Water System which is operated by Kitsap Public Utility District. When the intertie is activated, customers may notice a temporary change in aesthetic water quality including changes in color, taste, and odor which are not health related concerns. Additionally, because the Island Utility water system is not fluoridated, fluoridation of the water system will be discontinued while the intertie is activated.
These proposed changes require increased monitoring and represent additional costs to the City. It is hoped that customers will cut back on irrigation so that we can return to normal treated water supply operations as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please call Public Works Operations and Maintenance at 206-842-1212 or pwom@bainbridgewa.gov.
In an effort to conserve water due to impacts on the City's infrastructure, the letter/notices below were distributed to customers served by the Rockaway Beach Water System.
Customers are being asked to reduce irrigation to 50% or more beginning Tuesday, July 26, 2022, and to sign up for Nixle alerts for future communications on water system-related topics (text rockaway to 888777). See July 26, 2022 letter below for more information:
