Mark Your Calendar: Styrofoam Recycling Events

As the holidays approach and your home fills with packaging from all your holiday shopping and gifts, please consider bringing your Styrofoam packaging to upcoming recycling events.

Kitsap County is hosting a free STYRO-Roundup recycling event for Kitsap County residents 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Van Zee building, located at 1200 Fairgrounds Rd. NW in Bremerton. Please limit your recycling to one carload per household.

Accepted Styrofoam Items:

  • Packing peanuts
  • Styrofoam blocks - no tape or labels
  • Food packaging- clean and unstained
  • Styrofoam trays- separate color from white
  • Items must be clean, dry, and empty. Please remove packing tape and labels. Sort materials by type and color.
  • Click the event flyer below to see pictures of accepted items.

Not Accepted:

  • No soft foam (craft, hot tub covers)
  • No Expanded Polyethylene (EPE)
  • No sealed foam
  • No foil-lined foam
  • No trailers or box trucks.
  • No commercial customers -- households only.

Can't make the event?

Here are some ideas for people who can't make the event but still want to recycle their Styrofoam:

  • Ask your neighborhood Facebook or Nextdoor group if anyone is willing to bring your items to the event for you. (Repay them with holiday cookies?)
  • Read Kitsap County's What Do I Do With It? recycling guide for some year-round recycling and reuse options for Styrofoam items.
  • Save it for Kitsap County's 2019 STYRO-Roundup events. (Scheduled in the new year)

If you can't recycle your Styrofoam, please put it in your garbage.Bag up packing peanuts so they don't blow away when your garbage hauler lifts your cart. Styrofoam packaging is not recyclable in your curbside bin or at county recycling and disposal facilities.

Please bring only clean, white, dry, snappable (#6 EPS) block packaging and coolers. Please remove all tape and stickers. No peanuts. The CDs should not be in cases.
